Hi! I'm Foivos a bioinformatics software engineer working in Basel, Switzerland. I am interested in
Bioinformatics, Data Science and Software Development.
About Me
My name is Foivos and I come from the beautiful island of Corfu, Greece. Since 2014 I live and work in Basel, Switzerland.
I am currently a Bioinformatics Software Engineer at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). In the past I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the lab of Professor Helge Grosshans at FMI and at the lab of Professor Mihaela Zavolan at Biocenter where I worked on computational methods to study RNA function and processing, focusing on the development of software and pipelines to analyze High Throuput Sequencing (HTS) data ranging from RNA-seq, poly(A)-seq and ribo-seq to single cells and third generation sequencing technologies (PacBio, Oxford Nanopore).
I obtained a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the University of Basel (advisor: Professor Mihaela Zavolan). I also hold a MSc in Bioinformatics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece (Department of Biology) and a diploma (5 year's course) in Electronics and Computer Engineering from the Techincal University of Crete, Greece.
